The Octobass was first constructed around 1850 by the French master violin luthier Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume (1798-1875). The large bowed instrument is about 3.5 meters in length, dwarfing its predecessor the double bass in size and depth of tone. Please enjoy these wonderful videos of the Octobass in action filmed at the Cité de la musique in Paris.
